Cars on the Rec Update

We held our third Cars on the Rec event (second of 2025) on Sunday 1st June, and it was our biggest yet. I want to send a big ‘thank you’ to all those who attended, both those with vehicles and to the village community for coming along to support us. Of course, I would also like to thank the volunteers that helped the morning run smoothly.

As always, there were some stunning vehicles, many with their owners having spent long hours (years) turning them into road going works of art. This time, I am pleased to say, we also had a few firsts: 1. I believe we reached 50 vehicles, 2. we were joined by a fantastic trike, along with a couple of scooters, and 3. (a personal objective for me) we had two Mercedes SLs on the rec, mine along with another. Unfortunately, each time I walked over to chat to the SL owners, they were busy talking to other enthusiasts, so I missed the opportunity to say thanks (I hope to see them next time).

As many of you will know, all money raised goes to The Eversdens Recreation Area Charity, and we cannot thank you enough for your support. The recreation ground is an important facility for the Eversdens community, and neighbouring communities who use the football and cricket pitches, and the committee is working hard to try to improve it.

We were also holding a books, games and jigsaws sale at the sale time. Firstly, thank you to all those who donated. We had lots of stock and sold many items, helping significantly with our fund raising. Secondly, thank you to all the villagers that came along and spent some money with us. This time you all helped us raise around £450 for the charity!

I have been on the committee for around 3 years, and there is a lot of unseen work going on, not only towards organising these events for the community and doing what we can to maintain the facility, but also in trying to improve the facilities we have. Not least of which is working over many years with the planning office, the Football Foundation and Cambs FA trying to secure funding for a new pavilion. This has proven to be a more complex, intensive and drawn out task than might have originally been envisaged. I will post a full update on these pages in the near future.

Thank you, again, we now look forward to the next Cars on the Rec scheduled for Sunday 6th July. Hope to see you there!
